3rd Annual Computer Architects' Ice Hockey Game
Theory vs. Practice
Date: Monday, June 11th, during ACM FCRC
Time: 11:30 PM
Location: IceTown La Jolla, San Diego, CA
Contact: Gabriel Loh (loh <at> cc.gatech.edu)
Tim Sherwood (sherwood <at> cs.ucsb.edu)
Final Score: ISCA 6, STOC 4
We had an epic battle between the ISCA and STOC hockey crowds this past
Monday night. Throngs of fans from both sides flocked to the rink to
support their teams. In the end, the ISCA team prevailed, but it was a
hard-fought match with dazzling goals and highlight-reel saves. A good
time was had by all, and we're all looking forward to the rematch at the
next FCRC. Full photographic documentation can be found

About
For two years running, we've gotten a group of computer architects together
and have had a great time playing friendly games of ice hockey. We're
planning on doing it again this year during FCRC in San Diego, CA!
There's a twist to it this year. Traditionally, we've held this
game during ISCA. Since
ISCA is part of FCRC this year, we'll have a larger slice of the
overall computer science community at FCRC which allows us to attempt to
arrange a friendly match between computer architecture
and theory
communities!
We hope to see you out on the ice!
- Computer architects, please send an email to Gabe at loh (at) cc.gatech.edu and cc: Tim Sherwood at sherwood (at) cs.ucsd.edu.
- Theorists, please go to the Theory of Computing Hockey Page
Volunteers?
We could use a scorekeeper and one or more photographers. If you're
interested, talk to Gabe. A referee would be nice as well.
Location, Directions, Travel, Cost, etc.
The total cost will be determined when we get the final list of players. It will
likely work out to about $20 each.
Rink Info

Directions from conference hotel
For transportation, we will just carpool. We anticipate many people having
rental cars, so we will set up a meeting place/time and go from there.
More emails will go around the week before FCRC for the final organization
of rides.
We Need Sponsors!
We've had two highly successful ice hockey games so far. If your company
is looking for an opportunity to sponsor a highly-visible event, please get
in contact with us. We are looking for full or partial sponsors to cover
the expenses for the ice rink, transportation, and/or jerseys
(which could proudly display your corporate logo!).
Rules
The 2007 Computer Architecture Ice Hockey game will be a friendly, no-check
ice hockey game open to computer architects and theoreticians (fee to be
determined). This is an opportunity to rub elbows with friends and
colleagues with a common interest. Participants should be able to skate
(and stop), but need not be experienced hockey players. Participants must
wear protective equipment (helmet, gloves, shin guards, and cup/pelvic
protector at the minimum; full pads are strongly recommended). We will use
a regular (hard) puck, but slap shots are restricted (permitted only if
there is no one between you and the goalie, since not everyone has full
pads). No body-checking is allowed at any time.
