Graduate Programs Area Advisors
The Area Advisors represent groups of faculty members in an academic area of endeavor. The Area Advisors have several responsibilities relating to their area, including:
- Advising graduate students about studies in their area
- Determining which courses may satisfy the requirements for specialization
- Determining which courses may satisfy a PhD breadth component requirememt
- Developing the reading list and PhD Qualifier Exam
- Representing their area on the graduate admissions committees
- Representing their area in the PhD and MS review process
- Reviewing and determining the appropriateness of graduate transfer credit or advanced standing for courses in their area.
