Course Info

In this course we consider the architectures, protocols and services of emerging wireless and mobile data networks. The course is designed for students who have already had a first course in networking and in particular in the architecture and protocols used within the Internet.

The course is will cover fundamentals in the design of mobile and wireless networks and services. The topics will include: 1) fundamentals of the wireless medium and medium access control protocols, 2) recent developments in the design (and in some cases standradization) of routing and transport protocols for mobile and wireless networks, and 3) power management, 4) modeling and evaluation techniques and 5) novel paradigms in emerging disruption and delay tolerant networks.

Additional topics will be covered through calls projects that include in-class presnetations.

Class Participation: 10% (including attendance and discussion participation)

HW: 10%

Test: 25%

Projects: 55% (apportioned as discussed in the project description)

The HW is to be done individually . The project will be done in groups of 3 or 4 (maybe revised depending on class enrollment).
