In October 2007, we will celebrate GVU's 15th anniversary and many
activities this year aim at this finish line. The most important
activity requires input and contemplation from all of us. Fifteen
years into this venture, what is the mission of GVU? What should we
be about? What activities will really matter in the long run? What
risks should we take? What does (or should) the outside world expect
us to accomplish?
I'll open this conversation to the entire GVU community this Thursday
at the opening brown bag with a talk I've titled "10 Research
Challenges for GVU." In contrast to previous "what is GVU doing"
overview talks, my intent this time is to shine bright light on goals
for our GVU community that present a compelling mix of potential
impact, innovation, importance and insight.
We will start the conversations on Thursday and by October we will
present our mission to the rest of the world. In the meantime, we'll
have plenty of ships to steer toward that goal (recruiting, GVU labs,
research investments, strategic partnerships, student community, GVU
website.....). Let's get going!
