Title:
Ubiquitous Computing: Extending Access To Mobile Data
Authors:
Michael D. Pinkerton
Abstract:
We live in a world where fully featured mobile devices (PDA's, etc.) are
gaining wider acceptance and usage. As more and more information is
collected and stored on these devices, there becomes a greater need for
both users and developers to be able to easily access and work with this
information, either from desktop machines or from mobile devices. Current
solutions to this problem are either cumbersome for users or restrictive
to developers.
There are two goals of this work:
- Provide an infrastructure and real-world applications for integrating
mobile information into a desktop environment. This integration should be
seamless, requiring minimal deviation from how users currently interact
with their desktop machines.
- Allow the mobile devices themselves to collaborate and share
information with others. Each device will be a first-class client in the
system, not just a passive information repository.
